This contrasting safari includes almost all of the highlights that southern Namibia has to offer. The fascinating landscape of the Fish River Canyon, the Nama Karoo and the endless Namib Desert. With numerous game drives, this trip is packed with fun and incomparable landscapes.
Day 1 (Tue): Windhoek - Kalahari Desert
Early in the morning, we head south from Windhoek. Behind the last mountain ranges, the endless savannah opens up – until suddenly the first red sand dunes of the Kalahari appear. Contrary to its reputation as a desert, it is full of life thanks to sporadic rainfall: plants and animals find their habitat between the dunes. The lodge welcomes us with a pool and sun loungers, alternatively, the Kalahari can be explored on an optional nature walk. During the first sundowner on the dune with a view into the vastness, we finally leave civilization behind – an impressive start to our journey.
Day 2 (Wed): Kalahari Desert - Fish River Canyon (B)
After breakfast, we continue south. A “must” along the way is the Garas Quiver Tree Forest. In the past, the San used the hollowed-out branches of these aloes as quivers. Today, the fairy-tale-like trees against a steel-blue sky serve as a popular photo backdrop. And while the landscape becomes increasingly bizarre, with mountain ranges, rocky plains and barren steppe, we are already approaching the Fish River Canyon and our next lodge. An ice-cold drink and a crystal-clear pool are waiting for you. In the late afternoon, when the sun transforms the magnificent landscape into a sea of colours, you can choose between an optional safari on foot or by jeep.
Day 3 (Thu): Fish River Canyon - Lüderitz (B)
The day begins with an impressive sunrise at the Fish River Canyon, where the enormous dimensions of the second-largest canyon in the world are particularly impressive. Afterwards, the journey takes us past the Naute Dam and through the fascinating landscape of the Namib towards the Atlantic coast. Along the way, there is an opportunity to visit a local distillery. At Garub, we keep an eye out for the famous wild horses of the Namib, which have lived here under extreme conditions for more than one hundred years. In the late afternoon, we reach Lüderitz, where magnificent German colonial architecture meets the rugged desert landscape and the roaring Atlantic Ocean.
Day 4 (Fri) - Namib Desert (B)
Colonial houses sinking into the sand with peeling paint on the walls, a bowling alley without players and windows opening onto the dunes ... During the diamond rush, the inhabitants of Kolmanskop could never have dreamed that their magnificent little town would one day be conquered by the sand. While our cameras capture the contrasts and colours, we bring the past back to life during the morning guided tour through the ghost town outside Lüderitz. Afterwards, a long drive through the Namib Desert awaits you: vast plains and endless skies, but also impressive mountain ranges, the foothills of red sand dunes and dignified oryx antelopes enduring the blazing midday heat. Short lunch stop in the tranquil town of Helmeringhausen. That someone actually lives here, so far away from everything? Thoroughly shaken up by the gravel road, you reach your accommodation in the afternoon, very close to Sossusvlei.
Day 5 (Sat) - Namib Desert (B)
Early in the morning, we experience Namib-Naukluft Park in the magical light of the rising sun. The enormous dunes change their colours from soft apricot to deep red – an unforgettable sight. Afterwards, we head to the famous Deadvlei with its brilliant white clay pan, the bizarre, 600-year-old dead camel thorn trees and the imposing dunes in the background. Those who wish can climb one of the dunes and enjoy the spectacular view. In the afternoon, Sesriem Canyon awaits us with a completely different side of the desert: deep rock walls, natural pools and impressive formations created over thousands of years by the Tsauchab River.
Day 6 (Sun): Namib Desert - Swakopmund (B)
After breakfast, the journey takes us through the impressive vastness of the Namib towards the Atlantic coast. Along the way, we stop in Solitaire, known for its legendary apple pie, before the route continues north through the picturesque Kuiseb Valley. In Walvis Bay, the fascinating lagoon with its numerous flamingos awaits us, before we drive along the coast between endless dunes and the Atlantic Ocean to Swakopmund. In the afternoon, we reach the charming coastal town, where desert landscape, sea and German colonial history come together in a special way.
Day 7 (Mon): Swakopmund (B)
It is not without reason that Swakopmund is called the “playground of Namibia”. At the latest during the long summer holidays, Namibians from all parts of the country flock to the small coastal town, because everyone can find something to enjoy here. You can do something or simply enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the place.
Day 8 (Tue): Swakopmund - Windhoek (B)
After breakfast, you drive back to the lively capital Windhoek. Depending on whether your journey continues or home is calling, our guide will take you to your hotel or directly to the airport.
